For the 2012 season, long distance ski races are taking a slightly different format. A number of the races are going to be longer 'down wind', A to B type races and as such are a lot more challenging for the competitors. This year the British Ski Series age categories will be Open Men/Women, Masters Men (40+) and Open Double. It will include the following races:
St Ives Paddlefest - June 9th
Weymouth to Lulworth Cove Downwind - June 16th
Icon Classic Downwind - June 30th
Goldcoast Downwind - August 18th
Animal Windfest Downwind - September 15th
N.B. As with Surf Life Saving GB National Championships. 16 year old competitors are eligable for the Open Category if they have the correct competiencies to take on the challenge of Long Distance Ski Paddling and have the appropriate parental consent.
In order to continue the development of younger paddlers the following races will include U16 and U19 girls/boys age groups as well:
Rhoose Ski Race - May 6th
Tarka Ski Challenge - May 19th
St Ives Paddlefest - June 9th
Surf Life Saving GB British Long Distance Championships - September 29th/30th
These races don't contribute to an overall U16 / U19 British Series Champion, but do enable good preparation for the Surf Life Saving GB British Long Distance Championships on 29th/30th September in Bournemouth.
